I'm a detail-oriented Safety, Health, Environment and Quality (SHEQ) professional with hands-on experience in legal compliance, workplace safety inspections, hazard identification, contractor compliance and risk assessments within demanding operational environments. I'm skilled in supporting site safety, Permit-to-Work systems, incident investigations, and ISO 9001, ISO 22000, ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 compliance, building integrated management systems that hold up under audit and protect the people doing the work.

My degree research examined musculoskeletal disorder prevalence among water-fetching women in Budiriro, reflecting a practical, people-first approach to occupational health that carries through into every site I've worked on. I'm currently deepening my ISO management systems knowledge ahead of further study through OSHEMAC, which I'll begin in 2027.

Hazard Management Cycle

How I take a site from risk to control

Every SHEQ professional follows a cycle. Click each stage to see what it looks like in my hands, from first walk-through to closed-out corrective action.

1. Identify Hazards

Walks the site, reviews processes and flags hazards before they become incidents, covering machinery, traffic routes, manual handling, confined spaces and hygiene zones.

2. Assess Risk

Scores likelihood and severity to prioritise the risks that matter most, using structured risk assessment methodology aligned to ISO 45001.

3. Implement Controls

Applies the hierarchy of controls: eliminate, substitute, engineer, administer, PPE, and formalises high-risk activities through Permit-to-Work.

4. Monitor & Train

Tracks SHE KPIs including LTIFR, runs toolbox talks and inductions, and keeps compliance documentation audit-ready across every site.

5. Investigate & Review

Investigates incidents and near-misses with root cause analysis, then feeds corrective actions back into procedures and SOPs.

Building an Integrated SHEQ Management System - an interactive ISO 9001, ISO 14001 & ISO 45001 case study. I'm currently deepening my knowledge of these standards, and I've used a fictional site, Apex Manufacturing, to demonstrate how I'd design and implement an integrated management system against them, from clause structure through to a worked risk assessment. Apex is fictional - this shows how I approach management-system design, risk assessment, auditing and continual improvement, not a claim that I've implemented these standards there.

Focus

Ensuring products and services consistently meet customer and regulatory requirements, through a process-based approach.

Key Clauses
  • 4: Context of the Organisation
  • 6: Planning (risks & opportunities, objectives)
  • 8: Operation (process control, purchasing, inspection)
  • 9: Performance Evaluation
  • 10: Improvement
What I'd Implement at Apex
  • A process map tracing the product from customer requirement through to delivery and feedback
  • Quality inspection checkpoints with calibrated equipment and competent inspectors
  • Defect-rate and first-pass-yield KPIs reviewed at management review
  • An approved-supplier list and evaluation process to control purchasing risk
Focus

Managing the organisation's environmental aspects and impacts, and meeting compliance obligations.

Key Clauses
  • 6.1.2: Environmental Aspects
  • 6.1.3: Compliance Obligations
  • 8.1: Operational Planning & Control
  • 9.1: Monitoring, Measurement & Evaluation
  • 10: Improvement
What I'd Implement at Apex
  • An aspect-and-impact register covering activities such as painting and waste generation
  • Significance evaluation to flag issues like VOC emissions as significant aspects
  • Controls: low-VOC alternatives, ventilation, controlled storage, spill response
  • A KPI such as VOC consumption per month, tracked at management review
Focus

Preventing work-related injury and ill health, and providing safe and healthy workplaces.

Key Clauses
  • 5: Leadership & Worker Participation
  • 6.1.2: Hazard Identification & Risk Assessment
  • 8.1: Operational Planning & Control
  • 8.2: Emergency Preparedness & Response
  • 10: Improvement
What I'd Implement at Apex
  • A HIRA methodology and live risk register scored by likelihood and severity
  • Permit-to-Work controls for hot work, confined space and working at heights
  • Worker participation channels: SHE Reps, toolbox talks, near-miss reporting
  • The worked example below, carried from hazard through to residual risk
ISO 45001 in practice

Hazard Assessment - Welding Area

A worked example of how I'd carry a hazard through identification, risk rating and control at Apex. Click to open it.

Potential Harm

Respiratory irritation and long-term occupational lung disease from inhaling welding fume.

Who Is Exposed

Welders, maintenance personnel and contractors working near the bay.

Existing Controls

Local exhaust ventilation, respiratory PPE, a written welding procedure and worker training.

Additional Controls Recommended

Verify LEV effectiveness, increase maintenance frequency, run exposure monitoring, and review the respiratory protection programme.

Initial Risk High
Residual Risk (After Controls) Acceptable

ISO 45001 ConnectionHazard identification, OH&S risk assessment and operational planning and control (Clauses 6.1.2 and 8.1).

Impact & Outcomes

What changed on-site

Strengthening food-safety compliance across multiple sites

SHEQ Officer · Current

I joined Introwise as a SHEQ Graduate Trainee in August 2025 and was appointed SHEQ Officer in July 2026 after completing the traineeship. In this role, I lead the development and maintenance of integrated management systems spanning ISO 9001, 14001, 22000 and 45001 within a live food-production environment. My inspections, audits and SOP reviews are aimed squarely at reducing non-conformances and keeping every site inspection-ready, while my training sessions build a compliance culture that holds even when I'm not on-site.

Risk and Safety Intern · Completed

At Hunyani Paper and Packaging, my inspections and Permit-to-Work support kept high-risk activities like hot work and confined space entry under control. I helped build out the site's emergency response capability, training SHE Reps, first aiders and fire fighters, and extended my focus to environmental compliance, from effluent treatment to water and energy monitoring.
